About the role:

We are searching for an experienced API engineer who is enthusiastic about architecting, building, and delivering highly scalable distributed services to join our API team, reporting to the team lead.

The Giphy API is the core infrastructure that powers both internal and external products, including Giphy.com. It handles more than 50+ billion requests per month, with traffic consisting of several petabytes of media. While building new features for the API community, the API team is constantly improving the API architecture by migrating the system into microservices architecture and looking into modern patterns such as an API Gateway.

Who are we looking for?

Skills & Experience:

BS, MS, or Ph.D. in Computer Science or equivalent work experience (5+ years);
Fluency in multiple server-side programming languages, such as Scala and PHP;
Experience developing and maintaining high scale, low-latency APIs;
Experience with microservices and service-oriented architectures;
Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS), Jenkins, Kubernetes, and CDN services, or similar technologies;
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to write detailed technical plans; ability to review and evaluate proposals to determine dependencies and risks;
Proven experience in solving complex product or technical problems independently and tactically;
Ability to quickly respond to changing priorities and change the development pace of certain services if priorities change;
Positive attitude, sense of humor, and love for GIFs.

Nice to have:

Experience with Fastly, Spinnaker;
Passion for the developer community;
Start-up experience.

What we offer

Responsibilities:

Work alongside product and business development (BD) teams to guide internal and external partners through our API and SDK offerings, best practices, and troubleshooting;
Collaborate with BD teams to translate partner pain points and feature requests into scope, technical requirements, and timelines;
Design and develop high-availability, performant public-facing, and internal APIs using REST and gRPC design patterns;
Contribute to development and deployment processes as Giphy migrates its platform to a microservices architecture;
Support the team in executing various projects on the product roadmap and ensure the accurate delivery of project requirements and code quality;
Facilitate cross-team technical discussion and communicate effectively with non-tech stakeholders from various teams;
Research and prototype new technologies to be introduced into our systems and infrastructure;
Collaborate with Product and Business Development teams to realize new products and features.
